POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

Abstract
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) occurs among people who have survived traumatic events that are outside the realm of normal human experience-e.g. rape or assault, physical injury, military combat, bombings, torture, and floods or earthquakes. The afflicted person reexperiences the traumatic event through painful, intrusive recollections or nightmares. Episodes may last from several minutes to several days. During an episode, the person may, behave as if he or she were reliving the event.
PTSD also involves a kind of "psychic numbing" or decreased responsiveness to the environment, which may be experienced as decreased ability to receive pleasure from it¢¥s activities, or diminished capacity to feel interest in and tenderness toward other people. Anxiety and depression commonly occur with PTSD.
People who experienced traumatic events with others may also feel guilty about having..survived when others did not(e g. concentration camp survivors). Some people are only minimally impaired by PTSD but others are severl incapacitated by phobic avoidance of all situations that .might remind them of the traumatic event and trigger further episodes. PTSD has received increasingly attention in recent~tears because of, its prevalence among the victims of traffic accidents, industrial disasters and sexual assaults in Korea.
Psychotherapy, antnxiety agents, and antdepressants have all been used in the treatment of PTSD Group psychotherapy with survivors: of the same traumatic situation has been found¢¥ useful.
We experienced a woman patient with this disorder and report this case with a brief review of literatures.
